Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 25, 2026
This policy explains, in plain language, what personal information the mpicbrampton.com website collects, why, who else handles it, and how you can reach us about it. Our mobile app has its own policy: see the Al-Salam app privacy policy.
Who we are
This website is run by Mount Pleasant Islamic Center, an Ontario corporation (corporation number 1931643) operating as Mount Pleasant Islamic Centre and Masjid Al-Salam, a registered Canadian charity (charity number 807420385RR0001).
160 Salvation Road, Brampton, ON L7A 0W7, Canada. Office: 905-840-5454.
We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Questions about this policy or your information: info@mpicbrampton.com.
The short version
- You can read the whole website without giving us any personal information.
- We collect personal information only when you choose to: the contact form, the newsletter sign-up, or a donation.
- We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies on this website, and we never sell, rent or trade personal information.
Contact form
When you use the form on our Contact page, we receive your name, email address, phone number (optional) and message. We use it only to answer you.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and keep a record of your consent as Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires: when you subscribed, that it was through the website form, and the IP address and browser details the sign-up came from.
- Your address is stored in our mailing-list database, hosted by Supabase. Newsletters are sent through Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES), part of Amazon Web Services.
- We use it only to send you masjid news and announcements. Access to the list is limited to volunteers who sign in to our admin area.
- Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time. After you unsubscribe we keep your address and the date on a do-not-email record, so that we do not email you again.
- Our emails can report back when a message is delivered, opened or a link in it is clicked, and whether it bounced or was marked as spam. We use this to see which announcements reach people, to stop sending to addresses that bounce, and to honour spam complaints. Your email program can block the "opened" report by not loading images.
Donations
Online donations are processed by PayPal. The donation form on this website sends your name, email address, the amount, and any comment or anonymous-donation choice straight to PayPal's checkout. Card and bank details are entered on PayPal's pages; this website never sees or stores them. PayPal tells us the details of your donation so that we can record it and thank you, and PayPal's own privacy policy applies to what you enter with them.
To issue an official donation receipt for income tax purposes we need your full name and address. We keep donation records for as long as the Canada Revenue Agency requires registered charities to keep them.
Cookies, logs and embedded content
- No tracking cookies. The public website does not set cookies and does not use analytics, advertising pixels or similar trackers.
- Admin sign-in. Our admin area (/admin), used only by masjid volunteers, sets a sign-in session cookie when a volunteer signs in. Visitors to the public website never receive it.
- Hosting logs. Our host, Netlify, receives the technical information every website request carries, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, and keeps standard server logs to run and secure the site.
- Embedded video and map. The home page shows a video from YouTube and the Contact page shows a Google Maps map. These are loaded from Google, which can see your IP address and may set its own cookies under Google's privacy policy. Links to our social media pages take you to those services, where their policies apply.
Who else handles your information
We use a small number of service providers, each only to run the part of the website described above: Netlify (website hosting and the contact form), Supabase (newsletter database), Amazon Web Services (sending newsletters), PayPal (donations) and Google (the embedded video and map). Some of them store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law. We never sell, rent or trade personal information.
How long we keep it
- Contact form messages: as long as needed to answer you and deal with any follow-up.
- Newsletter: while you are subscribed. After you unsubscribe we keep only what is needed to make sure we do not email you again and to show that we had your consent.
- Donation records: as long as the Canada Revenue Agency requires.
Children
This website is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through it. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights (PIPEDA)
You can ask us, at info@mpicbrampton.com, to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you access to it;
- correct it if it is wrong;
- withdraw your consent, for example by unsubscribing from the newsletter (any email's unsubscribe link does this straight away).
We will respond within the timelines PIPEDA sets (normally 30 days). If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (https://www.priv.gc.ca).
Changes to this policy
If we change what the website collects, we will update this page and the date at the top.
